Adventures by the Book, in partnership with Yellow Book Road, presents Give a Book on Behalf of Sandy Hook: Book Drive and Fundraising Adventure on Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Yellow Book Road in Liberty Station.
This free event is open to the public for those with or without children. Sandy Hook representatives have indicated the best way to honor their memory is to make a difference in our own community.
Stop by Yellow Book Road to meet some of the most talented and beloved children’s authors and illustrators in Southern California: Robin Preiss Glasser, David Shannon, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Candace Ryan, Marla Frazee, Salina Yoon, Susie Ghahremani, Annika Nelson, Edith Hope Fine, Aurthor Salm, and Kathleen Krull.
Purchase an autographed book for donation in memory of those precious lives lost at, and the surviving students of, Sandy Hook Elementary School. Donated books and proceeds from sales thereof will be donated to the San Diego Center for Children. The goal is to provide 450 books, representing the number of students at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Event includes opportunity drawings (special signed books, art, posters, or gifts provided by authors and publishers) to benefit the San Diego Center for Children. Those unable to attend the event may purchase signed books by pre-ordering from Yellow Book Road at (619) 955-5188.
The San Diego Center for Children is honored to be a recipient of the generous donations collected at the Sandy Hook Benefit Book Drive. With over 125 years of helping care for San Diego’s most vulnerable children, their goal is to provide expert therapeutic care and counseling for children and teens suffering from mental health challenges. In fact, one of their most successful programs at the Center for Children is their Intensive Reading Improvement Program. Through this critical program, they are able to develop the reading skills for children that sometimes come to them four to five (or more) grade levels behind in reading, therefore only further complicating the special education needs they already face due to their personal battles with mental health disorders. The San Diego Center for Children believes that through therapeutic treatment, education and a nurturing environment, the skills they provide these kids today are eventually what will make them successful, self-confident and contributing members of our community tomorrow.
